AAA Appliance Service Center, in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, has received such an overwhelming number of service requests, they have had to expand their team of repair service technicians.

With the economy in a reinvention phase, more people are choosing to have things they own repaired instead of replaced when there is a problem or breakdown. Whether it is cars, clothes or household appliances, people are using the repair strategy to conserve cash. (more…)

Illinois customer service jobs get a boost from grocery store

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

A popular grocery market said this week it plans on hiring hundreds for customer service jobs in Illinois, among other positions.

Mariano’s grocery, which opened a store at 333 Benton Place in the Lakeshore East Development, is looking to fill 450 full time and part time positions.

The store is a part of Roundy’s supermarkets. This store opening marks the fourth store of its kind.

There are three other stores at 3350 N. Western Ave. in Chicago, and in Arlington Heights and Vernon Hills.

The kinds of jobs available vary, but the Chicago Sun-Times reports the store is looking for everything from meat cutters to work in the butcher department to cake decorators to managers and cashiers.

The announcement is expected to boost the number of Chicago jobs.

The store’s big opening will be on Oct. 4.

The store plans on hiring many people to have operations running smoothly before the grand opening.

Illinois jobs get a boost from Aon

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Aon Corporation is reportedly recruiting for Illinois jobs.

The company has roughly 1,400 job openings related to benefits outsourcing, human capital consulting and actuary sciences.

The boost will add several more human resources jobs in Chicago.

Other companies are also hiring, according to job site CareerBuilder.com.

Despite a job shortage due to the stagnant economy, some large companies are hiring in big numbers, CareerBuilder recently announced. Moving trucks could be a common sight in cities with many healthcare, information technology and engineering companies, because those industries are quickly recovering from the recession.

Various other industries are emerging from the depths and are beginning to hire in large numbers. A recent CareerBuilder survey of more than 800 workers who were laid off in the past year showed that 60 percent found new jobs, and 54 percent of those jobs were in different fields.

“We’re seeing significant growth in skilled positions – those requiring degrees and five or 10 years of experience – but not enough talent to fill those positions,” CareerBuilder CEO Matt Ferguson said. “This goes back to the importance of ‘re-skilling’ workers for opportunities where we’re not only seeing demand today, but expect to grow in the future.”

For instance, Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank currently has more than 1,000 job openings, from software engineer to relationship manager.

August’s unemployment rate was 9.1 percent, which was down from 2010’s average of 9.6 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, weekly applications for unemployment benefits rose by 2,000, the Labor Department announced September 8.
