Education Jobs in Illinois Open Up

The Troy school district in Illinois have announced that they are hiring for education jobs in Illinois.

They have already acquired new leadership for the 2010-11 school year. Kristin Copes has been hired as the new principal for Troy Hofer Elementary School.

According to SuburbanChicagoNews.com, Copes just completed her 16th year in education. Her employment with Troy started during the 2009-10 school year when she accepted the split assistant principal position at Troy Hofer and Troy Shorewood elementary schools. She replaces Robert Bauhmann.

Copes has a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University.

Brooke Allen will be the assistant principal at Troy Hofer.

In pay news, the Troy school board voted to keep the pay for substitute teachers and teaching assistants the same as last year, $95 per day for teachers and $65 for teaching assistants.

Schools Cut Teaching Jobs in Illinois

The Chicago Public Schools Board of Education has eliminated over 600 teaching jobs in Illinois, as part of statewide effort to tackle a large budget deficit.

Around 1400 more teachers and staff are expected to be let go within the next few weeks.

Thousands of Illinois Teaching Jobs on the Chopping Block

A coalition of education groups are warning that Illinois’s state funding crisis could cost the state several thousand Illinois teaching jobs.

The state’s funding crisis has already put 9,800 teachers on the unemployment line.

According to CBS2Chicago.com, schools must tell employees now whether their jobs will be cut next year. Officials from the six-group coalition said they have heard from 75 percent of Illinois school districts and they plan more than 17,000 layoffs.

The coalition says it expects the total to reach 20,000 when complete information is available.

Illinois Teaching Jobs Saved by Stimulus

Federal stimulus money is helping to maintain and create Illinois teaching jobs.

School districts will receive stimulus money in three waves. The first two are aimed at giving districts more money for special education and Title I, a program for low-income students. The four Illinois Quad-City districts will receive $4.6 million and $2.6 million in special education and Title I money. The last chunk of money will come in the form of state fiscal stabilization funds, which Illinois will use to maintain state funding levels for districts during this school year and next school year.

According to an article by the Quad-City Times, some potential plans for the stimulus money include:

  • In the Rock Island-Milan School District, students struggling with reading will receive more instruction from better-trained teachers on phonics and phonemic awareness.

    WIU Helps Students Get Internships and Prepare for Illinois Jobs

    Whether you’re a freshman just starting out or a senior ready to graduate, you have one thing in common: internships are important.

    Western Illinois University
    has recognized the need for students to obtain meaningful internships so they can go on to obtain meaningful Illinois jobs. The University has a Career Services Web site that helps students find the right internship, according to an article by the Western Courier. The site has many links to help students get started and find internships.

    “Students should look for a place that gives them relative experience for their field of study and learning opportunities,” Renee Sprock, assistant director of Career Services, said in the article. “They should also think about geographical location as far as where they want to work after they graduate.”

    Illinois Teaching Jobs on the Up

    Those interested in the education industry will find many opportunities when it comes to Illinois teaching jobs.

    According to a report by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, employment in education and training in Illinois is expected to grow faster than the statewide average for all occupations through 2014.

    The United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics notes the state’s education and health services industry employed 791,300 people in June 2008, an increase of 1.5 percent over the previous year.
