As the state continues to lose jobs, Illinois unemployment continues to increase as well.

During June, the State of Illinois saw its unemployment rate increase from 10.1 percent to 10.3 percent, which is higher than the national unemployment rate of 9.5 percent. The state hasn’t seen its unemployment rate decrease since March 2007, when it went from 4.9 percent to 4.7 percent.

Illinois had a total non-farm employment of 5,686,100 workers during June, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 5,700,000 workers during May and a 4.6 percent decrease from last year.

Some industries did add jobs on a month-to-month basis. Industries that increased include: professional and business services by 2,400 workers; education and health services by 1,500 workers; leisure and hospitality by 400 workers and other services by 1,800 workers.

Only two industries managed to gain jobs from last year during the month of June. The mining and logging industry employed 10,200 workers during June, down from 10,300 workers during May, but a 4.1 percent increase from last year. The education and health services industry employed 805,400 workers during June, up from 803,900 workers during May and a .8 percent increase from last year.
