Advertising firm hiring for business development jobs in Illinois

Good news for sales reps: one firm said this week it is ramping up hiring for business development jobs in Illinois.

ValueClick, an online advertiser, said this week it is hiring in several markets, including for sales jobs in Chicago.

The company plans to increase its workforce by over 10 percent as part of its global organic growth strategy. Over 100 positions in the areas of sales, business development and technology are available in primary markets such as New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, as well as additional positions in secondary markets across North America.

Campus to open new site, add education jobs in Illinois

A university is expected to open a new site, adding education jobs in Illinois.

Robert Morris University said it is pleased to announce that beginning with the fall quarter this September, it will open a new branch campus at 2123 S. Goebbert Road in Arlington Heights.

As Illinois unemployment decreases year by year, new jobs keep cropping up.

The campus will house the evening classes for students in the School of Business Administration program. Through the generosity of a major donor, the first 100 Arlington Heights residents applying will receive grants for tuition enabling students to attend classes with no student loans or tuition bills. CPA Society honors individual for supporting diversity jobs in Illinois

The state CPA Society has recognized one man for boosting diversity jobs in Illinois.

The Illinois CPA Society recently honored Ronald S. Sonenthal, CPA, Chief Operating Officer for Deloitte Tax LLP, with its 2011 Outstanding Leadership in Advancing Diversity Award for his commitment to driving greater diversity within the accounting profession and his role in increased hiring of diverse professionals within Deloitte Tax and throughout the professional services field.

During his more than 27 years in public accounting and nearly 10 years with Deloitte, Sonenthal has made thousands of students aware of the opportunities available in accounting and provided them with the tools needed to succeed in school. He brought Working in the Schools (WITS) “Workplace Mentoring” program to Deloitte and, recognizing the financial barrier students faced, worked for six years on the Board of Directors of College Bound, which eventually merged with other college-access non-profits to form Scholarship Chicago. Firm recruiting for hundreds of customer service jobs in Illinois

NCO Group just announced it is looking to hire people for customer service jobs in Illinois.

The company, a provider of business process outsourcing services, said that it will hire roughly 400 individuals in its Rockford, Illinois, Customer Management Contact Center. The hiring of these individuals allows NCO to positively contribute to the Rockford community by creating new jobs. The hiring will coincide with the program expansion for one of NCO’s leading clients in the wireless telecommunications industry.

Illinois unemployment decreases year-over-year

Illinois unemployment is decreasing slowly but surely, according to recent BLS stats.

In April, 237 metropolitan areas reported over-the-year increases in nonfarm
payroll employment, 126 reported decreases, and 9 had no change. The largest
over-the-year employment increase was recorded in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington,
Texas (+83,100), followed by Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, Texas (+51,100),
Chicago-Joliet-Naperville, Ill.-Ind.-Wis. (+37,100), and Los Angeles-Long
Beach-Santa Ana, Calif. (+36,200).

The largest over-the-year percentage gain
in employment was reported in Sandusky, Ohio (+13.8 percent), followed by
Elizabethtown, Ky. (+6.3 percent), Flagstaff, Ariz. (+5.2 percent), and Anderson,
S.C. (+5.1 percent).

The largest over-the-year decreases in employment occurred in Riverside-San
Bernardino-Ontario, Calif. (-16,400), Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville, Calif.
(-14,600), Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, Ga. (-9,000), and Albuquerque, N.M.
(-6,300). The largest over-the-year percentage decreases in employment were
reported in Missoula, Mont. (-4.2 percent); Palm Coast, Fla., Pine Bluff, Ark.,
and Vineland-Millville-Bridgeton, N.J. (-3.2 percent each); and Glens Falls, N.Y.
(-3.0 percent).

Over the year, nonfarm employment rose in 27 of the 36 metropolitan areas with
annual average employment levels above 750,000 in 2010. The largest over-the-year
percentage increases in employment in these large metropolitan areas were posted
in Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas, and Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis, Wis.
(+2.9 percent each), Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, Texas (+2.0 percent), Austin-Round Rock-
San Marcos, Texas (+1.8 percent), and Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Fla., and San Jose-
Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif. (+1.5 percent each). The largest over-the-year percentage
decreases in employment occurred in Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville, Calif.
(-1.8 percent); Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, Calif. (-1.5 percent); and
Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, Ga., Baltimore-Towson, Md., and Indianapolis-Carmel,
Ind. (-0.4 percent each).

The data posits that Chicago jobs are also on the rise.

Center helping businesses hire for seasonal jobs in Illinois

With summer comes seasonal jobs, and an organization in Chicago is assisting local businesses hire for seasonal jobs in Illinois, along with entry-level jobs in Chicago.

Center for Cultural Interchange (CCI), the well-respected, nonprofit student exchange organization, is holding Chicago-based hiring events for U.S. businesses with entry-level, seasonal hiring needs during the Winter 2011-12 season.

U.S.-based businesses look for employees to fill seasonal gaps such as those in the following industries: hospitality and tourism, amusements and entertainment, restaurant and food operations, warehousing and distribution, and seafood production and fisheries.

City ordered to hire hundreds for firefighter jobs in Illinois

The city of Chicago has been ordered in by a court to hire hundreds for firefighter jobs in Illinois.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled in favor of a class of over 6,000 qualified African-American firefighter applicants who were unfairly denied the opportunity to work for the Chicago Fire Department. Last Spring, after over a decade of litigation, the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) and co-counsel won a unanimous victory for the African-American firefighter applicants in the Supreme Court.

The Court of Appeals’ decision today, also unanimous, decisively rejected Chicago’s attempt to evade that Supreme Court ruling. Chicago must now hire those workers for Chicago firefighter jobs.

Child therapist group recruits for jobs in Illinois

Management jobs in Illinois stall

The creation of management jobs in Illinois looks to be experiencing a setback.

The new April 2011 CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index, which measures managerial hiring activity online, continues to rise, trending upward for the fourth month in a row. Despite a minuscule gain of 1.1 over last month, the April 2011 Index, at 110.6 points, now stands at its highest level since January 2008, with an 18.3 point lead over April 2010 and a 69.2 point gain over April 2009.

Firm recruits for operations jobs in Illinois

Any repair business has an operations staff to handle numerous tasks for the repair technicians so the technicians can focus on the repairs. Well, AAA Appliance Service Center® has had such a significant amount of growth in business; they have hired an additional person to work on operations activities.
