Illinois tech jobs get a boost at TechWeek

During a conference held this week, Illinois tech jobs are getting some help with the aid some top industry experts.

A group of CEOs gathered for a panel to discuss how to hire for IT jobs in Chicago, among other tips.

CEOs will share their experiences related to hiring and growth in a TechWeek panel discussion titled, “Hiring for Growth – Five Chicago Tech Founders Share Their Stories,” taking place in Chicago on July 22nd, 2011 at 2PM at the Merchandise Mart.

Illinois Technology Jobs Increase, but Slower than Usual

While most industries have continued to decline amidst the current economic recession, Illinois technology jobs have increased, though at a slower rate than usual.

Cyberstates 2009, a report from TechAmerica, found that during 2007, Illinois‘ technology industry added about 2,400 jobs, or increased by 1.2 percent, when compared to 2006. That makes Illinois the number seven state in the country for high-tech companies.

However, the increase in tech jobs is expected to slow down for 2008 and 2009 because of the economy and major layoffs at technology and communications companies.

IT Jobs in Illinois to Grow

Although the industry is currently losing workers, IT jobs in Illinois are expected to grow through 2014.

During July 2008, Illinois‘ information industry employed a total of 115,800 workers, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, a decrease of .5 percent.

Illinois’ information technology industry is expected to grow faster than the statewide average for all industries through 2014, according to an article by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. This is mostly due to the fact that organizations will continue to integrate increasingly sophisticated technology.
